Luminosity

As I stood at the tunnel
From which came
Howling noises of the wind
Seemingly a ghost or some evil
Trapped inside
Beckoning for it's morsel
To enter at its own peril
I...such a personal pronoun
Yet self centric
Self indulgent even
Waited staring into the dark depths of the tunnel
Weighing the pros
Wishing they out weighed the cons
A small calculated step forward
One more to be engulfed by it's unfamiliarity
Hand on the hip
Either supporting myself or
Egging forward
I stood a moment longer
Before I leaped in to
The nothingness.
Fast it enveloped my whole
Like serpentine creepers
Building a Bastille
Of darkness
Once my sight adapted
I ventured towards
Where I believed was
The end of this
Shadowy passage
Walking for what felt like eons
Fighting the panic that threatened to choke
I moved further...deeper into the murkiness.
Cold and wobbly ,
I stretched out my arms
a destitute of vision
Trying hard to
Brush against the expanse
For it seemed incessant.
All at once...a tiny speck
A mere trace of radiance
Far to the distance
Stirred up belief
Encouraged I urged my wobbly feet
To move quicker
Towards the glowing amber
Unaware a warmth spread
Inside my entire body
Opposing the frigid tunnel
The gleaming speck..now a sizable orb
Seemed to be rushing at me
Uncertainty grasped my ankles
I swallowed hard
Paralyzed I stood
The fiery sphere loomed large in front of me
Transfixed I stared into it
Tendril of light or fire...
I can't be certain
Coiled up my arms and tugged
Mindlessly I moved closer
It singed slightly
I seemed to be enamored with the luminosity for it didn't bother in the least
Bewitched or entranced
I hauled myself up to caress the globe.
Instantly I was consumed
Dissolving in the light..
I felt almost ethereal.
