The stray

A stray mongrel, cemented to your

Curb, eyes full of overwhelming hunger

Tongue lolling for scraps from yesterday

I watch my deep sunken greedy eyes

In the puddle from last night's rain

I secretly wish that I turn away unfed

I do not want to tear at your flesh more

I saw the other day, the gashes I left,

There were some inflicted by pedigrees...

Unripe and fresh your flesh glistened

Through the gaps of your secure windows

Drool dripped from my mouth to mingle

In the puddle at my paws, it stung sharp

Was that my vigilant shame or avarice

I stomped my paws marking my territory

Also smashing the guilt to fragments

I stand ground, rooted this time definitely

A mongrel by your curb waiting for scraps.
